The Award Ceremony of the 25th Basic Disciplines Forum of Nanjing University was successfully held

On September 25, 2022, the Award ceremony of the 25th Basic Disciplines Forum of Nanjing University hosted by Kuang Yaming Honors School was held in the Guosheng Lecture Hall. About 200 people attended the ceremony, including prize-winning students of the Basic Science Forum, essay review experts from related departments, representatives of teachers and students from sibling universities, and teachers and students from Kuang Yaming Hornors School. The ceremony specially invited You Yumeng, Executive Dean of Wu Jianxiong College of Southeast University, Zhong Bojian, Dean of Intensive Training College of Nanjing Normal University, Wen Yu, Vice Minister of Student Affairs Department of Party Committee of Nanjing University, and Chen Hao, deputy Secretary of Youth League Committee of the University. Wang Jun, Secretary of Party Committee and President of Kuang Yaming Honors School, Chairman of Judges of Basic Disciplines Forum, You Yumeng, Executive Dean of Wu Jianxiong College of Southeast University, and other leaders were present to guide the ceremony. Zhong Bojian, Dean of the College of Intensive Training of Nanjing Normal University, thesis evaluation experts from related departments, award-winning students, representatives of teachers and students from other colleges, and about 200 people from Kuang Yaming Honors School attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Li Yunqian, a 2021 undergraduate of Kuang Yaming Honors School.



At the opening ceremony, Mr. Wang Jun, President of Kuang Yaming Honors School, extended his congratulations to the award-winning students and welcomed the leaders and experts attending the ceremony. He said in his speech that the Forum of Basic Disciplines of Nanjing University is an academic feast for undergraduates, an important academic platform for self-presentation and academic exchange, and an ideological space for common growth. This is the place where participants put what they have learned into practice, where authors and judges interact actively, and where arts and sciences blend and ideas collide. The awards of this Forum will not be the end, but a new starting point. He actively called on more outstanding students from other universities to participate in the program, communicate with each other and grow together.


The Forum guests, members of the Forum Advisory Committee and judging experts presented certificates of honor and prizes to the students who won the first, second and third prizes, respectively, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the Forum.



The forum of Basic disciplines has added the winner's speech, which is an innovation based on previous work and provides a further platform for outstanding students and academic talents to show. After the award ceremony, the organizer set up sub-forums according to the direction of arts and science, and invite the first prize winners of this forum to make academic reports on the stage in turn. As the representatives of the judges, Professor Liu Peng from the Department of Philosophy and Professor Ge Xin from Kuang Yaming Honors School introduced the writing and highlights of the papers of liberal arts and science respectively, and made a message. The students, the judges and the audience actively interact, the academic atmosphere is strong and warm. After voting and judging, Lin Yufeng from the Philosophy Department, Nie Yuyao and Shang Qingyu from the Business School and Wu Yuxin from Kuang Yaming Honors School won the Best Popularity Award and the Best Presentation Award respectively from the Arts and Science sub-forum. Jiang Xiaoran from Wu Jianxiong College of Southeast University, as the special guest of the forum, also gave a wonderful report in the sub-forum.



The Basic Disciplines Forum is the largest, oldest and most influential undergraduate academic activity in Nanjing University. Since its inception in 1998, the forum has been successfully held for 25 years. Students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China and Zhejiang University participated in the forum. In this forum, there are students from University of Science and Technology of China who won the first prize. Over the years, the Forum has received a total of 6,526 papers submitted by students, whose research content covers not only the traditional basic disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth science, biology, literature, history, philosophy, but also the interdisciplinary research of applied science and engineering. In 2016, the Basic Disciplines Forum won the gold medal of "Excellent Activities of Quality Education for College Students" selected by the Chinese Society of Higher Education for Quality Education Research Branch for universities in China. The Forum of Basic Subjects has become the largest, oldest and most influential undergraduate academic activity in Nanjing University.
